About the Index
An open record of reported counterfeiting enforcement
Counterfeit Index India is an independent, open-data quarterly index of reported product counterfeiting and illicit trade enforcement in India.
Counterfeit Index India tracks publicly reported enforcement events — seizures, raids, regulatory alerts, and court judgments — involving counterfeit and spurious products in India, and publishes them quarterly as a structured, source-linked dataset. It measures enforcement visibility, not market prevalence, and every record is traceable to its original public source.
India's counterfeit economy is discussed in annual estimates and scattered headlines, but the underlying events — who enforced what, where, against which category, with what outcome — have never been available as continuous, structured, verifiable data. The Index exists to build that record, one quarter at a time, and to give it away.
The Index is an independent project. It is not affiliated with any brand-protection vendor, industry association, or enforcement agency, accepts no sponsorship, and sells nothing.
